I’m very passionate about yoga, STEMoutreach, and animals (in no particular order). These are some of the organizations that do these cool things and you should definitely check them out!
- Graduate Women in Science : Not just for graduate women, or women in science, or graduate women in science, or women – GWIS is inclusive and is for everyone! Check them out on their website, find a local chapter (or start one of your own), and connect with people with shared interests all around you!
- Graduate Women in Science – Research Triangle Park : This is the local GWIS chapter where I serve as the Membership Secretary. We organize an event every month, and some of these events are casual ways to meet cool people, while others like our work with Meredith College in a mentorship capacity – are more geared towards STEM and STEM outreach. Even if you cannot be a member, think about donating to us via Amazon Smile or even directly! Ask me for more information.
- SPCA of Wake County: I volunteer as a dog walker with them sometimes (although I should be more regular about it) but SPCA is an amazing organization that helps animals in need, and trains people to help these animals too. Adopt, foster, volunteer, or just donate because these animals need our help (and they’re so cute).
- Open Door Yoga, Raleigh: They make yoga accessible, enjoyable, and realistically achievable. I never realised that there is a deep mind-body connection that I could be making using yoga, but after ODY I am able to understand it better. Also, shavasana after 90 minutes of grueling yoga is a feeling I chase every day.
PS: None of these places have paid me to advertise them, these are my own, unadulterated opinions.
